My inbox is badly messed up. Most incoming messages will not preview.

Let me attach a screen grab from earlier this morning. Look at the last (most recent) incoming message. The preview displays a completely different, unrelated, 5-year-old message. That message can be found in its proper chronological position in the inbox.

Also, one of my important mailbox files is ruined. When I look at such a mailbox in my text editor, each message begins with a "From" line. Normally this line has data in it, such as

> From ???@??? Mon Apr 25 16:58:14 2005 or (since 2011) > From - Mon Nov 28 16:46:45 2011 In the ruined mailbox, there are thousands of messages, but only one, the oldest one, has the special flag and the date after the "From" -- not even the hyphen "From - ". So when I try to read in that inbox, the TOC shows only one message, that oldest one. None of the others get into the TOC because they lack the necessary opening line. I don't know how all those opening lines were changed.

I am using Beta 122.0b1 (32-bit). I don't know why I am in the Beta channel, and I probably should not be, but it was easier to remain (and have automatic updates) than to change. I am on Windows 10.

right click the folder, select properties and then the repair button.

Perhaps consider an exclusion in your antivirus to stop is scanning in your Thunderbird profile folder while the program is running to prevent future issues.

The repair option did work on my main inbox, but it does not work on other folders that have lost their TOCs (msf files).

I am attaching a screen grab showing that the mailbox "Uptown-2020" seems to contain only one email, with size over 300 meg. In fact it contains over 1,800 emails, but none of them are indexed here.

That is a new box containing only the emails from 2020 on that were in the "Uptown" mailbox. You can see in the attached screen grab that that mailbox also has a ruined TOC. That one should go back over a dozen years, and contains many historically valuable messages. Neither of these mailboxes is repaired by doing the easy fix (right-click --> properties --> repair folder).

May be this problem: Bug 1872849 - folder corruption tracker for thunderbird 122+ https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1872849

I'd be very careful to continue messing with the flawed beta. Make sure you do have a full backup of your Thunderbird profile.

Inertia will bite you at some point.

Thanks. Works for me, now, I can read all the comments. But the ruined local Imap folders are not repaired by the properties --> repair folders process.

The mailboxes are still there but they are not properly separated and do not produce a usable TOC.

Fixes are now available in 128.3.3. First right+click on broken folder > properties > Repair. Then update to 128.3.3 with Help > About. Please post your results.
