I use Win7, Firefox, and Thunderbird. I used to have Thunderbird as my default so when I clicked on an email address, a Thunderbird compose window would open. Instead, an Outlook window opens at login.live.com. I think I have set the Windows and the Firefox mail system defaults to Thunderbird. How can I get Thunderbird back as my email client?

Thanks for the reference. I had already done the things described in the reference and they did not solve the problem. However, it reminded me that recently I had tried to find a solution for a friend who used Chrome and wanted to open Hotmail (mail.live.com) as her email client when she clicked a mailto: link. During that investigation I installed Chrome and eventually installed the Mailto: extension for that browser.

I removed that extension from Chrome, rebooted, and mailto: links in Firefox returned to using Thunderbird as my mail system.
