When I click on a message, it no longer is marked as "read," it stays marked as "unread."

Until yesterday, when I clicked on a new message, it was immediately marked as "read" by unbolding. Now, when I click on a message it remains bolded, and appears to be "unread," even though I have read it. I want messages to remain "unread" until I have time to read them, so have not checked "Automatically mark messages as read." How do I return to the original setting that leaves messages bolded until I click on them?

Tools > Options > Advanced > Reading & Display' tab

Depending upon what you want, choose the following options:

You want new unread mail bold and : 1. when you click to read email in the Message Pane, it auto changes to unbold immediately.

  • Select: 'Automatically mark messages as read'
  • Select: 'Immediately on display'
  • Click on 'OK'

2. when you click to read email in the Message Pane, there is a delay of xx seconds before it auto changes to unbold.

  • Select: 'Automatically mark messages as read'
  • Select: 'After displaying for (choose number of) seconds'
  • Click on 'OK'

3. when you click to read email in the Message Pane, it remains bold until you manually select to make it read and unbold by: click on 'Other Actions' > 'Mark as Read' or right click on email in list > 'Mark' > 'As read' or select email in list and press 'M'

  • Uncheck to deselect: 'Automatically mark messages as read'

I have the same issue. I have tried all those steps and none of them worked.

I didn't think they would because I hadn't touched them and then, all of a sudden I had the same issue that the OP had.

I could just click on the message header in the inbox and it would unbold.

Plus, when I "Right Click" the "Mark as Unread" is Greyed out.

As an addition to my email above, here is my current config.

I have also tried setting it to a time, such as 2 seconds...NOTHING has worked.

I think this is somehow a bug? I had my config set up for auto update, so has this updated in the last few days?

Thx
