Secure Connection Failed/SSL rec'd record with incorrect Message Auth Code/Error Code: ssl_error_bad_mac_read (my laptop is a Compaq)
I set up all my accounts/bills/banking on my PC. Now I am in Italy on a new Compaq laptop and almost none of my account sites will let me log in. I repeatedly get this message:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to www.gmacmortgage.com.
SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code.
(Error code: ssl_error_bad_mac_read)
My computer is not a Mac. Please help!! I need to pay my bills and access my bank account!

I had the same problem but it was more that just Firefox. I was also having trouble opening the same https websites on IE. After a week of searching for fixes one forum suggested that it is not an ssl problem and most likely another issue. One person suggested to check the modem/network drivers. I was lucky enough to have two on-board NICs. I just switched to the other one and what do you know the webpages started to work. My suggestion is to download updated driver for your particular NIC and reinstall them. Hopefully that works out for you.
Belated Thanks hoytrecurver , as your post was 11 months ago.
I hit the same problem August 2011, i.e. https web sites won't work, and got the same ssl_error_bad_mac_read error from Firefox. I was using an HP PC running Vista, and Internet Explorer wouldn't work either, but my other PC did work OK.
Refreshing the PC network driver has not fix it for me, (1) Old XP PC through router = OK (2) Vista PC through same router = SSL error. (3) Wiring Vista PC to internet missing out router = SSL error.

This is one possible explanation - you disabled the firewall. See this page:
The "mac" in the error message was an abbreviation for Message Authentication Code.
