Is there an option for opening the tabs accessed from a pop-up (middle click links inside the pop-up) in the pop-up window and not in the main tab bar?

Yes, this came as a shock, as I extensively open tabs within popups in our intranet system. Now I have the choice to either rip out Firefox 4, or struggle in vain to manage windows, because I often need to reference one page within a popup while leaving another one – containing a partially-filled form – undisturbed, and now I'm prohibited from keeping the tabs within the same window.
I've just restarted Firefox without Tab Mix Plus running in case that was causing it, but clearly not. I'm now hoping I can find *something* in about:config to revert this decision.
(What's worse is that if I do revert to 3.6 for now, I'll never find out whether this was ever fixed, so it will be the 3.6 doghouse forever. There I thought I could finally go 4 ... :(

Firefox 5.0 and now 6.0 and this problem still persists...
This add-on resolves the problem:
Tested in Firefox 5 and 9 in Windows 7 32-bit, and Firefox 8 in Windows XP alongside Tab Mix Plus.
