Firefox is only usable in the full screen mode. If in standard mode (I guess that would be what it's called), the scroll bar is unusable, and scrolling down the page with the arrow keys causes Firefox to black out the website. But ONLY in standard mode.

In both viewing modes, the "right-click" menu exhibits the same symptoms when the mouse travels over the options. While the mouse is hovering over the menu, these options remain black, until such time as the mouse no longer is "directly over" the menu. They become visible again, and this process is repeated once the mouse begins to travel over the menu.

This only happened because of the installation of Firefox 4.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

In Firefox 4 Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This did not solve the problem. Not only is it not an add-on or theme, nor is it the hardware acceleration, it isn't the plug-ins either. I attempted to disable all plug-ins with no added success.

Are there any other ideas?

You can check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
