Why does firefox have to update so often? If you guys can't get it right, then maybe you need to hire some smarter people.

But seriously, Firefox asks me to update WAY too often and I am getting sick of it. I do not like updates. And I never seen a major difference in firefox anyway, so what is the point? The only thing is does is annoy me and waste my time.

I am sick of being asked for an update all the time, and the worst part is that when I say "NO" it just keeps asking. And asking. And asking. And asking. (I can do this all day, see how annoying it is).

To make my point,I am going to keep asking my question over and over again until I get a decent response. See how you like it. :)

Thank you.

Updates for Firefox 3.6 are security updates. For your protection, they comes as often as the updates are ready.

Updates to Firefox 4 are released every 6 weeks (with some additional security updates), so the latest update is Firefox 7. This is the new normal. If you want to read about why, you could start with this post: Rapid Release Process | Mitchell's Blog.

For the future, Mozilla is working on a silent update process that will just happen. (Some people aren't going to like that at all.)

I understand the security updates and all, but it causes all the add-ons to be incompatible, which is rather annoying.

I understand security updates. You can't tell me you can't get a handle on when they come out. To automatically update on a Monday and then hound me on Wednesday to upgrade is retarded. Sorry....but your answer seems like an excuse to not have responsibility of your programming staff.

Why not create a button that flashes when updates are available? That way you leave it in our hands AND you don't annoy us as much as you do. We all love the browser, don't get me wrong. But is seems that everyone who creates free stuff for the web feels as if they can treat users any way they want and we have to put up with it.

Hi oldcelt, you can submit suggestions here: http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback

As for the Monday/Wednesday scenario, I don't understand what you mean. What version of Firefox were you running before the Monday update?

Sorry firefox team, but OP is right. NO software that I know of (other then firefox) uses a 1.0 release without some sort of significant change. Using a 1.0 for every stupid little bugfix is not only annoying/confusing, it ignores every coding standard I've ever heard of.

Do you guys seriously enjoy being the laughing stock of the coding community? If you do a point release every 6 weeks, by the end of next you'll be at version 20.0.

You're confusing your users and pissing off your fanbase. Stop it.

Why don't you do what apple did? Set a base number like 5 and make every major release a .1? That would make way more sense.

My only guess is that they are tired of being behind in version numbers and want to have a version with something close to IE. 10 to 1 they stop going like crazy around 10. Who wants to bet? Strange thing is IE is on 10... hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Guys.. no matter how you keep spinning the reasons for the updates it won't wear with us.

We're not a stupid as you think we are.

Your product just isn't good enough for the international market. Look at the browser usage stats and see the decline in usage of Firefox.... uhhm.. I wonder why?

Because people don't like the logo? the lack of advertising?

Of course not.

Don't blame Chrome. You software had strong and growing support by anti MS'ers, a good market reach and every chance of becoming the most popular browser in the world.

The thing about your product is that whenever someone actually convinces me to try it again. I open it, and it immediately goes into update mode.

I immediately close it and think "5cr3w this ..."

I have some free time might actually start a blog to see if I can discover how many updates Firefox has actually had in its history.

Unless someone here can enlighten me?

Need to echo what every one else is saying: STOP the manic updating.

Pretty obvious you are only doing this for marketing purposes anyway and, in case you weren't paying attention, you are really starting to piss off your core user base. If you think every little minor change deserves a major update that nags users constantly then you need to get some smarter people in management and rethink your whole strategy. This is what happens when a bunch of devs lock themselves in a room and do whatever the hell they want. Your only saving grace is that this is free. If anyone had to pay for this crap you would already have been run out of business.

And don't pretend like you are speaking for web developers. You are not. We value stability, consistency, reliability.

And if your software really has that many major security flaws on such a constant basis then perhaps you shouldn't be coding software at all.
