Can I re-set tabs in the "New Tab Page"? I deleted all bookmarks from two of the nine "new tabs". Can I re-set these?

This new tab page allows you to store nine bookmarks, right? But I was hoping to go back to a bookmark I skipped, so I pressed delete over and over until the screen on two of the nine just went completely blank, and now I cannot drag a bookmark to them. If I drag a bookmark to one of them, or anywhere else on the page, nothing gets saved to the "new tab page", it just opens up that bookmark. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have the "show all bookmarks" window open. I am stumped.

Hi,

Please try this: Open a bookmark and drag its site icon (on the left edge of the location (address) bar), hold it over the newtab tab and when it opens release it over an empty thumbnail.

Troubleshooting

If the problem persists, you can also Reset Firefox and start afresh.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag them to a different position to pin them to that position or you can remove them by clicking the close X of an item to block them.
You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a slot on the about:newtab page to pin them.

Changes manually made on the about:newtab page are stored in the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder under the pinnedLinks key and blockedLinks key.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

Note that if you remove the chromeappsstore.sqlite file that you need to reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to initialize the about:home page search engine.
