Firefox shuts down of its own accord when I haven't touched the pc for some time, usually overnight.
As above. When I restart Firefox it always opens in the same position on the monitor and the same size window even though that wasn't the last position/size as when I left it. This is not a crash, it just disappears.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Do you have any security software scheduled to run at that time?
Many thanks - left PC on overnight and Firefox still open so problem seems to be solved!
No scheduled software to run overnight, just AVG running all time. Problem seems to be solved by resetting Firefox as above. Many thanks for interest!
