Add-on icons do not show.

I have installed both "DownloadHelper" and "Flash Video Downloader Youtube Downloader", but neither of the add-on icons are showing. I have tried view > toolbars > Customize... but the icons don't show up there either. I've also tried using the Hotkeys but they don't seem to do anything either.

Open the Customize window to set which toolbar items to display:

  • Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout
  • View > Toolbars > Customize
  • Check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file if the above didn't help.

"Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is on the tool bar. The add-on icon is not in the Customize window so I can not drag them to the toolbar. I tried the "Restore Default Set"

I created a new localstore.rdf file. and resetted foxfire.

Still no available icons. I included a screenshot of my toolbar

Do you see the extensions as installed on the about:addons (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) page?

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

There we go. I forgot to reinstall add-on after resetting.

Hi Gary, I think it would be helpful if you could start a new question and provide your specific system and information and what steps led up to the problem. For example, did this just start after installing a new add-on, or after upgrading to Firefox 20? To get started:
