I have tried to uninstall and reinstall java, real player, flash and any other plug-in I can think of and is recommended in the help section of this website. So the problem began 2 days ago and I didn't make any changes that I was aware of on my system. No videos will load on youtube unless I am under "never remember history" on my browser. I find this odd that it would work like that and not in remember history mode. Does anyone know what my system is missing or has that could be affecting this? Need help because I don't like to stay hidden when I want to remember sites. Thank you for the help.

In Private Browsing mode you get a fresh set of cookies and the disk cache is disabled.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Cor-el,

Thank you for the help. This however, did not solve my problem.

Any other ideas?

Thank you

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Cor-el,

Thank you again! You have a great deal of knowledge and I am very appreciative of your help. Unfortunately, that help did not fix the problem either. I am at a loss. It still will only work in private browsing history but not when it is under remember history. Never had this happen before.

Try to clear the Flash local storage and settings.

  • Windows Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage: Local Storage Settings
    • Remove a specific domain: Local Storage Settings by site
    • Remove all domains: Delete All and Delete Data

Flash Website Storage Settings panel:

Global Storage Settings Panel:

Cor-el,

Tried and failed. Only a few items in the local storage and clearing all did not work. I think if nothing else I would like to understand how this is happening and why fixing what is different in private history to open browse mode would not correct the issue. On a side note that might help, Youtube not only doesn't open videos for me but loading of the icons and comments is extremely slow.

Thanks
