I can't sync Firefox between my work PC and my home PC.

more options

I have Firefox on both my home PC and my work PC that I use as my primary browser. Ever since the update to the new sync, I have not been able to successfully merge them and keep them merged. Each time I go to each computer, it will update the bookmarks on all my devices, including my mobile and tablet. But then I change the bookmarks throughout, and I always click the sync button before closing, yet when I get back to my home PC, it's all the same bookmarks as the last time I used my home PC and none of the changes that I made throughout the day on my work PC. Then all my devices update again to the original home PC. It's very frustrating, because I lose the bookmarks I had made at work. This has only been since the update where I have to sign into the account, it never did this before. I've also confirmed that I'm correctly signed into the same account. How can I fix this?

It sounds like your home PC (or work PC) has a corrupt sync profile. You can fix this using the Refresh Firefox feature.

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
