Omnibox font issue after MS Font vulnerability update

Since the July 21 Microsoft Font vulnerability update, character display in the omnibox is faulty. This seems to occur only in the input box, the list is ok. eg. I type www, and the display just shows blank characters (but the cursor seems to have moved on). If i type www... I get blank or jumbled characters till I get at least 12 chars into the box, then it diplays.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks for that.

It was an issue with the graphics driver: Intel Mobile Series 4 Express. The current (and old) version 2869 is causing screen corruption when using hardware acceleration. There does not appear to be a more recent driver available on the INTEL site.

I have used the FF option to Disable hardware acceleration and FF seems to be OK.
