My Chrome has been showing a few of my mom's bookmarks and I can't work out why (my email doesn't seem to be listed on her Chrome profile: we live in the same house but I have my own computer... I try to avoid using my Chrome profile, although I have singed in to Chrome once or twice on her computer, but I took off my profile from her machine), so I decided to just import my bookmarks to my Firefox and stop using Chrome.

When I imported bookmarks from Chrome to Firefox (installed on the same machine) it took more from my mom's remote desktop and none from my same laptop. What is going on and how can I fix it?

My laptop shouldn't even be connected to the home network: I have that turned off. I don't even know how it's reaching my mom's desktop.

I am an adult living at home because of life circumstances beyond my control, so there is no reason anyone else would need access to my computers.

Try to export the Google Chrome bookmarks to an HTML file and import this file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager (Library).

You can open the Bookmarks Manager in Google Chrome (icon with the three bars > Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager) and select "Organize > Export Bookmarks to HTML File" This will export the Chrome bookmarks to a file bookmarks.html.

You can import that HTML backup in Firefox:

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

Thanks so much.

I tried that, but when I select my saved file and tell it to open, the dialog box closes and nothing else happens. Not sure what to try next.

Can you open the HTML in a Firefox tab for testing (File > Open File)?

Yes.

I don't know how to import into Firefox, although it appears possible to do this manually. Since I apparently need to sort them, maybe I should do that....

What is the file size of that backup?

Sometimes Firefox can have a problem with restoring an HTML backup if there are unknown or unsupported attributes in the H# and A tags in the file.

You can compare the page source of the backup created by Google Chrome with a backup created by Firefox.
