My Search Engine keeps routing to Bing

I have set Google search as my default search engine with Firefox.

I even uninstalled other Search Engine options and set my homepage to google.com.

But whenever I use the search function using Google, Firefox routes my search to Bing. So, I type in the Google Search box "cake" and instead of Google giving me found searches; the whole process switches over to Bing and Bing provides the found searches.

I do not like Bing. It is very advertisement driven web search engine. Unlike Google that gives me the result first and foremost then the ads on the side. Bing just shoves you the advert web pages then the actual found searches buried below or 2nd page.

Could someone let me know what is going on? Did my computer caught a virus? Because I do not even see Bing in my Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. And I am close to uninstalling Internet Explorer. I just want to use Google search.

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc.

  1. please go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
  2. also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
  3. finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner, which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.
