I do not want T-bird to import my deleted gmail messages. Do I have to change everything from POP to IMAP?

I import my gmail messages into T-bird. My old lash-up is POP. It's still fine on my desktop. However, when traveling, these days I check my email on my cell. I discovered some time ago that T-bird would import all my gmail messages, including those I had deleted. I'd like to be able to delete those and not have them reappear on my desktop. Maybe there's some easy fix to this, but so far it seems like I have to convert to IMAP. Can I do something easier? If not, any suggestions on handling the conversion beyond what's in the on-site articles?

Seems to me that your phone is not really deleting messages. That's not too uncommon. The email clients on phones do seem to have their very own way of working.

If a message is deleted then it is deleted. If it isn't, then Thunderbird will process it. Find out if your phone can be made to really delete a message

You were correct about checking the device. I tested this with a tablet, a laptop, and my desktop (three different messages). All were deleted before they came into T-bird. My old cell, the delete didn't get it done. But on my new one, for some reason, it did. Go figure. Thanks for the help.
