The first things I boot up in the morning are Firefox and Thunderbird. For the past couple of weeks, I have been getting this messages from each of them, asking to install fonts, but they both always name my backup drive as the intended install location.

In both applications, the first message is immediate, and the second message appears a minute or so later. Also in both applications, clicking on "do not show this message again," does absolutely no good whatever. Next time I boot, there they are.

The fonts they want to install on my backup drive are as follows:

Firefox: Bondi SvtyTwo OS ITC TT Bookit & Humana Serif Md ITC TT Medita

Thunderbird: Humana Serif ITC TT Light & Bondi SvtyTwo OS ITC TT Bookit

Any ideas on how to fix this? Please?

See /questions/768100 Why does firefox want to use different fonts on mounted hard drives

Move all User fonts in Font Book to Computer fonts:
Font Book > Preferences > Default Install Location : Computer
Select all User fonts and move them to Computer fonts and in Computer, remove all duplicate fonts

Disable automatic font activation:

  1. Launch Font Book (/Applications/Utilities/)
  2. Open Font Book > Preferences
  3. Deselect: "Automatic Font Activation"

I followed your steps exactly, but to no effect. And your response does not explain why Firefox and Thunderbird want to install fonts (the same fonts over and over) on by backup HD.
