I downloaded the CenturyLink toolbar but can't see it
hi i currently have the Yahoo toolbar, absolutely hate it. want to get rid of it. I downloaded the CenturyLink toolbar from CenturyLink. I installed the CenturyLink, had Firefox add them, but the toolbar isn't showing up any where. I even disabeled the Yahoo toolbar, which I still hate & want to remove. Beings how I'm still a newbie here at Firefox (love the security), hated Chrome, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong & why the toolbar isn't showing up ? oh, one other thing. when my mom got the last Firefox update, something happened. when she tries to get on Firefox there is an "xpsomething error" I've tried to uninstall firefox from the add/remove & it won't let me uninstall. Just got her started on Firefox & she loves it also. can anybody help me to somehow remove firefox & after restarting, get back on IE9 & get firefox back ? I thank you all for the help. Love Firefox !!!

hi these are 2 different issues. i don't want to uninstall firefox to fix the toolbar issue on my windows 7. i want to keep firefox & fix the toolbar issue.
however, the second problem is on my mom's Vista computer. i can't uninstall firefox from her vista. this is the one showing the error after the last firefox update.
Hi There,
Ok, Let's get the yahoo toolbar uninstalled. Below this email, please click on the link below that provides detail instructions on how to uninstall the toolbar.
Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page
For the window vista issue. Could you try reinstalling Firefox over itself to refresh the program files and Windows installer entries? It's possible that the files got corrupted.. Thanks
Robert
hi got rid of Yahoo. man, that was a pain. got centurylink as my home page ok, but no toolbar & in the add-ons it is enabled.
on mom's, we did get another firefox download from firefox & i'll run it tomorrow or saturday, got things to do tomorrow.
Hi There,

hi yes, yahoo is gone. but, the CenturyLink toolbar is not showing up as my toolbar. however, in my add-ons it says it's enabled. should i disable, restart firefox & enable again ? thanks
Hi There,
I would disable the addon, if you dont want it to interfere with your toolbar. Yes, you can disable, than restart and you should be all set.
Robert
hi disabled the add-on, but no toolbar still not shown or seen. restart firefox went back to add-ons & enabled the CenturyLink toolbar restart firefox still i have no, nada, none CenturyLink toolbar. non shown, non seen, non available, etc.
if Bing had a toolbar for firefox that was choice #1.
Hi bambeyette, does CenturyLink appear on your toolbar list? You can access that using either:
- right-click a blank area of the tab bar > various toolbars
- tap the Alt key > View menu > Toolbars > various toolbars
Selecting a bar switches it between displayed and hidden.
If it's not there, can you confirm that the associated add-on is enabled here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
If it is enabled, try its Options button to see whether you need to turn on the toolbar there.
hi went to the add-ons, & extensions & it is enabled. but there is no Options button. only disable & remove. I have it in my downloaded folder, maybe i should remove it from the extensions, close firefox, re-install from download folder after a restart of computer, restart firefox.??
Hi bambeyette, if the extension creates a toolbar, it should be available on the toolbars list (the first part of my post). If that's not there, maybe it's not compatible with the current version of Firefox. Could you post a link to the page where you downloaded it?
um, you lost me on the toolbar thing in the first post. link is as follows: http://www.centurylink.net copied from the homepage in Firefox's options. on the top next to where it says "make CenturyLink my home page" is the "get a CenturyLink toolbar". when you click that, it takes you to the download page. hope that helps. i'm really not dumb, just trying to still learn my Firefox. thanks for the help
It's sometimes hard to describe the toolbar area clearly. There are two different options here:
(1) right-click the tab bar (a blank area, not a tab) and use the context menu to turn toolbars on and off: see attached screenshot
(2) If you use the menu bar (File, Edit, View...) you can turn toolbars on and off using the View menu: see attached screenshot
If you normally use the compact two-column menu (orange Firefox button), you can either tap the Alt key or the F10 function key to show the menu bar temporarily.
Hopefully this gets you to the missing toolbar.

hi jscher ok i did all 3 examples, & in all 3 the CenturyLink toolbar is checked. but all i get is a blue line, about 1/4 " thick where the toolbar should be. i just don't understand what the problem is. maybe if i redo everything all over again, something will click. thanks for the help
hi going to shut it down for the nite. will check back tomorrow for any more advice. thank you both for the help, bambi
Hi bambeyette, sometimes the file that stores toolbar customizations becomes corrupted. You can rename the file and customize from scratch.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. Hopefully now your toolbars will show in full.
