Bookmark menu contents don't appear when hovering over a menu item
Running Firefox v28 on OSX 10.9.2
All of a sudden some of my bookmark submenus will not display their contents when I hover over them, while others will.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled...
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you.

This happens in Safe Mode?
Maybe the problem can be a corrupted place.sqlite, try go to your perfil and rename or delete it.(Maybe you need unhide the hidden files and folders).
Remember before you delete the places.sqlite close Firefox after restart it
Same problem in safe mode....
Did you try to replace the "place.sqlite"?
I quit FF, renamed places.sqlite to places.backup, then restarted FF
Still have the same problem, and it happens to the same menu items.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems. See "Creating a profile":

Profile Backup and Restore
I exported my bookmarks, closed FF, created a new profile, opened FF, imported the bookmarks, and the problem still exists
I tried creating a new subfolder and moving all the bookmarks from one of the problem folders into the new folder. Same problem.
Ok here's the real strange part. If I select the "Show all bookmarks" option from the bookmarks menu, and leave that window open, then go back to the bookmark menu, I can now see all the bookmarks in the subfolders. if I close the "show all bookmarks" window, it reverts to its bad behavior.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
I have the exactly same problem since early 20.x versions.
When I mouse over some of my folders it doesn't show any of its contents, but if I use "Show All Bookmarks" window they are certainly there.
Tried in Safe Mode, same issue. I deleted places.sqlite and localstore.rdf and bookmarksbackup folder. After a restore of the bookmarks.html still the same issue. Tried to rebuild the profile and again the issue persists.
I also used "Places Maintenance" addon and did a complete cleanup but it didn't work.
This weird behaviour is not a new issue, I've had this problem for too long and that is why I had to change browsers, because I use bookmarks a lot.
Running v30 now. Still have the problem when using the bookmarks menu bar, but if I use the bookmarks icon from the toolbar, it works ok. Weird.
Did you try to export the bookmarks to a JSON backup and delete the places.sqlite file and restore the JSON backup?
I tried deleting places.sqlite and the bookmarksbackup folder, that but still the same issue.
