Enterprise health care web application.. we display pdf's with reports.. we claim our app supports firefox.

Well since the update to 33.x Firefox no longer opens PDF's, PERIOD!

I went through your recommendations from this question,, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/978520 and they are all to no avail.

Windows RDLC Report viewer renders the PDF we use "iTextSharp" like everybody else, and spew out bytes from the reportviewer control to generate a PDF.

It's been working fine for like ever.. but since this update we may now need to inform our customers that we no longer support Firefox because they have gone stupid...

Seriously what the heck ?!?!?

I'm going to go check Chrome now.. then debug this kraziness...

Hello CRTaylor,

In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and click Options (for Linux and Mac Preferences) button.
  2. In the Options (for Linux and Mac Preferences) window, select the Applications tab.
  3. In the Search field, type PDF. You should find Portable Document Format (PDF).
  4. On the right hand side you should find an Action column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose Preview in Firefox.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

You Can't be serious ......suggesting some workaround to bypass the broken functionality.  !!!

You are implying that I direct our ----thousands----- of customers that when they are using Firefox, that they additionally must acquire an appropriate PDF viewer to view the reports that our software produces for them.

                                 UNACCEPTABLE

With all the myriad of issues we as Microsoft developers have with IE and the apparent pervasiveness of this (firefox) PDF display issue , I would think you'd have a fix ASAP .. This looks bad for firefox.... perhaps we will have to replace the recommendation as secondary browser to chrome now .. For the record the PDF displays fine still in IE.

OMG Just for Fun I tried your suggestion

  1. 1) the menu button doesn't even house the "Options" item if you have the file menu displayed .. anyway...once inside of this options\applications interface to change the default behavior to use a THIRD PARTY APP EXTERNAL TO FIREFOX to open PDF's, it still bombs and tries to use firefox and fails. Just for Kicks as I am dynamically creating this PDF I checked multiple other external sample PDFs and seriously Mozilla you should just be ashamed of this fiasco..they fail as well to invoke the external free pdf viewer ...sad just plain sad

Did I actually request "change the default reader" or did I inquire about the FLAW in the internal Firefox PDF reader..

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.
