How do I stop Firefox from updating? I have marked it not to.
"Never check for updates" has been marked yet it still tries to update.
My question is specifically: Why does this option not work and FF still tries to update? And how do I make FF stop checking for updates? (For real this time)

First, Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select Update.
[v56+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Select Update.
Select Never Check For Updates.
Also turn off Use a background service to install updates
Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.
If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

These things were done upon install. Yet it still has downloaded the update and is pending, waiting for me to close the program.

Shut down Firefox. Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)
Remove the folder; Mozilla Maintenance Service

I didn't see a folder by that name but in the Mozilla Firefox folder I see some files by that name. I need to uninstall and reinstall firefox and then I will look for the folder again or maybe delete those files and let you know what happens. Thanks,

I understand your concern, however it is ultimately my choice to remain on a particular version for a specified amount of time. If Firefox provides a button or option that does not function... that is either a bug or a lie to the customer. They should just remove the option. Then this problem would be solved. :)
All these questions and answers don't address my complaint, or help me to resolve it. Every single time Firefox updates everything changes. What are you thinking??? The explanation of how to prevent automatic is too complicated to follow. Please make "No updates" a check box and stop fiddling with a program that works just fine!

Just use a different web browser if you can't follow instructions.
In fact, I did eventually find the answer to my question which was simple enough. I'll stand by my comments about making Mozilla software more and more complicated, with too many and too frequent changes.
It sure does seem to be more typical of open software types to give wise guy answers to simple questions. Same attitude on many of the Linux forums.
