How to change home page and new tab to desired URL or any extension of Firefox desktop in 2025?
I am unable to find any way to change how my new tab should look when I click + sign or new tab is opened up on browser opening or re-opening unlike Chrome.
I hate the change of position of typing from the search bar on the current new tab to the URL bar (unseen or unheard in Chrome) that Firefox implemented without considering users who would detest it.
Using Firefox 131.0.3 (64-bit)

You can enter Custom URLs for the Home Page but you can't do anything with the New Tab page.
I agree you should be able to. You may want to suggest it as an "Idea" at: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/idb-p/ideas

This is so sad. This should have been by default.
But anyways, I have posted it as you said, and here it is.
Consider upvoting so that Firefox team brings this revolutionary feature very soon.
These are you options for setting a home page or alternative url.

These two help links should help set homepage and new tab "homepage" but for extensions you can't change those are the Addon creator don't give you permission to change or modify their software.
As of now, I am using this addon, Bonjourr · Minimalist and lightweight startpage

This works but something in-built would be beneficial.
Unfortunately, beyond the Firefox help on Homepage and New Tabs help that is all they have and beyond that would be a Addon or 3rd party software to do what your asking.
So sad no answers no wonder why most of us are using Chrome and Chromium.
In Firefox 13-41, you could go into about:config and set the browser.newtab.url preference to your URL of choice. Then this was saved in the prefs.js file for future sessions. But this preference was constantly attacked by malware to hijack the user experience (either by editing prefs.js, dropping a user.js file, or injecting a startup script). To stop that, Firefox 41+ requires using an add-on to change the new tab page.
If a local setting is added back, which would be more convenient for users, there needs to be some kind of security on this setting to avoid the original problem.
