Is this a structural or design flaw?

When I click on an e mail, I see the text (though I can hide it.) This means I am receiving an e mail from a source that might be putting a virus on my PC.

Ideally, one should need two clicks to open an e mail. The first to highlight it and the second to open it. That way, one can highlight and delete unwanted e mails without opening the e mail and risking contamination

You can usually disable previewing email and you can also disabling HTML and switch to text only and disable loading images and other content to prevent the sender from detecting that you've opened the mail.

So you need to check the settings in the mail program or the web interface if you access the mail via a web based service.
