Firefox will not connect or open. Mac OS 10.6.8. I was working with many open tabs when Firefox stopped working. Now it won't connect. I have uninstalled and downloaded it several times.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Somehow as I was troubleshooting the problem, Firefox began working again. I don't know what I did to make this happen because it seemed suddenly to come to life and I had tried so many ways to make it do so.
