Fire fox wont start today. Worked fine last night.

Error msg. .."Alert."...says: Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

I scaned for virus and maleware, rebooted....no luck.

Now I have to use Brand X,... explorer.

Help!!!

Nick

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) in the Firefox Profile Folder in case there is a problem with the file.

You may have to rename cert8.db (cert8.db.old) as well. Firefox will create new files.

Once I fornd the "Application data" there was NO "Mozilla/ firefox/ profiles/ <profile folder>

Understand Im doing this from Explorer, since firefox wont open.

Any other suggestions?

Nick

I tried to upgrade Firefox but it didnt help.

Could I delete it and re down load it? Would that create a new working file?

OK

I renamed both files as directed, by adding" .db.old"

"Rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) in the Firefox Profile Folder in case there is a problem with the file. You may have to rename cert8.db (cert8.db.old) as well.Firefox will create new files."

Now what? Just reboot and they will be fixed?

Thakns Nick

Restarting Firefox should be sufficient to make Firefox create new files in the profile folder.
