After installing Firefox 6 it disables java 6.0.26 and says "not compatible...". The last version ov java is 1.6.0.26 which is what most users use. What is the solution?

This morning I installed Firefox 6 and it says that it is not compatible with Java Console 6.0.26 and it is disabled. I am using Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. Is this normal?

The "Java Console" add-on is only needed if you are a programmer writing Java code that runs in Firefox. Otherwise, this add-on is not useful. Disabling it will not affect web pages that use Java.

Hi antzpantz:

The thread titled Certain Games on Facebook No Longer Work Since Installing FF6 has some good troubleshooting tips. The user in that thread solved their problem by creating a new Firefox profile and then transferring their old bookmarks and passwords into the new profile.

This won't enable the disabled Java Console but it may fix a problem with another Firefox add-on that isn't working correctly in Facebook.

I found the only way to get Firefox working properly again was to create a new profile. I tried cleaning up my old profile but never made any progress. Transferred bookmarks to new profile. Use LastPass for passwords so that was easy. Had to re-install all add-ons which was a pain but everything now works again as it should. Also, Java Console is not needed unless you are a developer.

Mozilla should have emphasized this as the best solution.

Ever since 6.0.2. Plugins will not update.

Check begins then crashes.. seems like a java problem.

Hi tmflorio:

I haven't updated to FF 6.0.2 yet, but the Java Installation Checker at http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp should tell you if your Java installation is working and whether you have the current recommended version (now Java 6 Update 27).

If the Java Installation Checker reports that your Java browser plugins are working correctly and up-to-date and both the Java Deployment Toolkit and Java Platform SE plugins are enabled in your Firefox Add-on Manager (Tools | Add-ons | Plugins), then something else is probably preventing your plugins from updating.

The Java Console extension is disabled in FF 6 by design and should not affect plugin updates.

antzpantz_4011 / tmflorio:

This posts is only relevant if you have Norton Internet Security or some other Norton product (e.g., Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Online Family) installed on your PC.

This is a bit of a long shot, but there are reports starting to appear on the Norton forum that Java games, etc., don't work with the newly released NIS 2012 and the 32-bit IE9 browser, even though Java works correctly with the 64-bit IE9 browser. They suspect that the Norton Toolbar or Symantec IPS extension is the problem, since the 64-bit IE9 browser does not have these Norton extensions (see one example in the NIS/NAV forum here).

Since NIS 2012 also installs a similar Norton Toolbar and Symantec IPS extension in Firefox (Tools | Add-ons | Extensions), I'm beginning to wonder if the new 2012 version of NIS/NAV is causing a problem with Java for some people. There are even suspicions that the parental controls in NIS 2012 or Norton Online Family could be blocking Java on the Internet.

It seems hard for some people to believe, but some people need Java Console to run some of Firefox' extensions; for instance Recipefox. Now I know that's not a must for most people, but it's the reason I got Firefox and I used it frequently. I'm going back to v3-whatever until Firefox has an upgrade that allows Java Console to work...that is unless someone has an idea how to get Recipefox to work now? Anyone? Anyone?

Hi stepelnbk:

Do you have the latest version of RecipeFox v. 0.59? I believe you need this version if you're using FF6.

When you run the Java Installation Checker , does it detect the currently recommended Java 6 Update 27 on your machine? I've seen some reports that RecipeFox isn't compatible yet with Java 7 (v. 1.7.0.0) .

You may also be able to find some help on the RecipeFox forum. There is a post on the forum here that indicates that RecipeFox 0.59 should work with FF6 and Java 6.27.

Well, I finally found a solution...

It is simple, easy to implement, non-geeky, crude, archaic, made-for-idiots - BUT IT WORKS!

I installed Internet Explorer 6.0

Instant, trouble-free, successful solution.

I'm tired of all these updates that screw everything else up. Shouldn't have released this without making sure that it was compatible. Mozilla needs to provide the fix because I'm not goin through all the crap listed here as solutions and I'm not going to put up with the browser crashing all the time.

I don't think this should be counted as a "solution" since it does not actually solve the problem.
