Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account
I am trying to set up my Sky email account. I know the settings are correct because I use them on other Windows and Android clients but I keep getting the, "Thunderbird failed to find the settings or your email account"

That sounds like an anti virus program blocking the process. Because the wizard interrogates the mail server sometimes the email component of the anti virus just mess things up big time. Disable email scanning, reboot to be sure it is off and try again.
Also check your firewall is not blocking Thunderbird. because of rapid fire requests to the server some anti virus program firewalls block Thunderbird because they appear to think there is no legitimate reason for so much activity.
