Create a desktop shortcut to a website failed - text stuck on desktop
I wanted to move a link to my Windows 8.1 (64 Bit) Desktop as per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website, but let go of the mouse button before the entire link was moved to the desktop. Now I have the URL (and nothing else) stuck on the desktop, fading from left right - and its on top of all windows, desktop, desktop background. It wont go away, even restarting explorer, hitting refresh doesnt help.
The text itself is not clickable and overlays two links on the desktop, when i move the links, the text still cant be selected or clicked on (right mouse click also has no effect). How do I get rid of the URL again?
Any idea will be much much appreciated as this is so very annoying to work with now.
Firefox used: 34.0.5

Edit: After a change and revert of desktop resolution the URL is no longer in front of every window, it just overlays the desktop.
Hi, I'm unsure as to what you mean when you say you've restarted Explorer, but I suggest you restart your PC - if a warm restart doesn't work, try shutting down completely and doing a cold restart.
If that fails: I'm not sure about Win 8, but on Win 7, one can right click on the Desktop > View > Show desktop icons. Try deselecting, then restart PC, then select again.
Finally, you could try Windows System Restore. Hope one of those works.
