Hi,

Long story short, but my old laptop completely died so i bought a new one. I've disconnected the hard drive from my old laptop and used a transfer cable to pull across my music and whatnot.

I want to pull across all my preferences, extensions and bookmarks and use them on my new laptop.

How do i do this? Where are the files i need from my old hard drive?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Sam

Your Firefox data is located in a hidden folder, so the first step is to turn off the feature of Windows that conceals it. This article has the steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../show-hidden-files

The following post describes how you could restore bookmarks from a backup on the old drive:

To recover the entire old profile, start by copying it to your new computer, and then try the following post -- substitute the actual location if it's not on the Windows desktop:

You can recover files from the profile on the other computer.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

"AppData" (XP: Application Data; Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

You can copy/transfer files like these to your current Firefox profile folder.

  • bookmarks/history: backups in the bookmarkbackups folder and possibly places.sqlite if you really need the history
  • other SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
  • logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • permissions.sqlite and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for Permissions and Site Preferences
  • cert8.db for stored intermediate certificates (Certificate Manager)
  • sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs and tab groups

You can recover more personal data.

It is best to reinstall extensions and redo toolbar customizations and Options/Preferences settings and not copy files like prefs.js and xulstore.json.
