why can't i easily search for and find a bookmark?
I have hundreds of folders in my bookmarks that have accumulated over several years. When I want to go through them to find an old bookmark, there is no easy way to search this. For example, today I wanted to find a bookmark that the last time I looked for it was over two years ago. I know the business name, which is contained in the bookmark name, but there is no search feature where I can enter that name and have firefox tell me what folder it is in. This is frustrating and I usually wind up creating a new bookmark somewhere, resulting in a bloated and redundant bookmark list. There should be a search box in the bookmark drop-down so if I don't remember what folder I put the bookmark in, the search feature would show me where it is.

Use the bookmark to open the page. Then press the bookmark star.

Firefox will not tell you which folder it is in, you will need to open the bookmark to discover that.. I am not sure if any addons help with that. There is an addon to help with duplicate bookmarks.
Search from the address bar using special control codes. In future maybe also consider adding tag:
- Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox_changing-results-on-the-fly
- Bookmark Tags - Categorize bookmarks to make them easy to find
- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-deduplicator
- Back them up first ! Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer_manual-backup
I have been looking for a couple of years now, and as far as I can tell, when you search for a bookmark and find it, there is no way to tell where it is. The next time you want that bookmark you have to search for it all over again.
We should be able to see what folder it is in so that we can learn where it is for the next time. And, we should be able to move it to a more convenient place.
I hope the halfwit designer that did this has been fired and blackballed so he never gets another job in program design.
Anyway, the easiest solution I have found is to right click on the bookmark and open it in a different tab or window. Then go back to the 'Library' window which should still be open. Delete the bookmark. Now go back to the web page that you opened earlier and save the bookmark again in a place you are more likely to find it the next time.
Thank you the-edmeister.

Thanks Fred,
Someone sent me this solution which adds a column that shows the parent folder.

There is a companion add-on that allows you to open the parent folder.
Yes, I have it also.
