Using XP SP2 and Firefox has now upgraded to v48 - having problems with this and wish to revert to an earlier version (eg v 27 or 34 which I consider as much better) I have dl full version of the exe file of both but how do I keep my data (bookmarks, etc)?

Yes, I have already found full copies if v27 and v34 plus I have a technique to reinstall and keep my toolbar info

these copies will enable me to reinstall my preferred version of FF when I have to do a complete rebuild of my PC (due to corrupt windows files, etc) This is usually an annual event which I am prepared for.

Thanks for the info on where to find the early copies of FF.

What issues are you having with v48? Perhaps we can assist you with that instead of downgrading all the way to v34, which is a horrible idea due to it being outdated and no further security updates are being applied to that version.

Yes. Please tell us.

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And one folder in the profile of each user on the computer.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be affected.

No Maintenance folder. there is an exe file in the Mozilla/firefox folder

Problems are partly one of choice - I found earlier versions easier to use and configure. Some option have vanished during updates and layouts have become confusing. Firefox now takes much longer to open even with 'nothing else' running. I use CCleaner to minimise the number of unnecessary startup files I have been getting more freezes especially when I try to scroll down a page and many more 'unresponsive' notices. Those 'freezes' seem to affect the whole system and I have to wait until it clears itself. or do a hot restart if all else fails. Even though I have all updates turned off it still seems to update and the newer versions seem to have a built-in update option which is hidden and I have problems turning it off (if I can) hence I am now at v48. I jumped from v37 - to 45 - 47-48. I really have no 'security' problems using Firefox (my AV protects me of that except for problems with scripting of Adverts.) Firefox Tools - add-ons and extensions manager is crap as there are numerous defaults I have to turn off as I don;t need them and cannot remove them. I cannot update mt Adobe Reader (X) or Flash program as Firefox has a 'hold' on this even though I way above the update started as unsecure. Java is also a problem. I don't know if I need it except some site say I do. Either way there is no info on what is 'acceptable'. Firefox FAQs do not cover my problems. Several; of my friends no longer use Firefox for similar reasons mentioned here. I do not like Chrome as it is a browser only and difficult to reconfigure (eg saving files and printing). Unfortunately FF is going the same way.

Earlier versions - I had no problems with & liked v27 and resisted any updates. But had to go to v34 during a reinstall of XP since v27 seemed not 'available'. It appears most apps are now only available via a small setup file and the balance is installed online. I also note that with updates or apps no info is supplied re what OS version it is compatible with.

There are still millions of us out there using XP and some are going to Unix based. I already have a spare PC with Mint installed for testing. Ditto wit my iMac and I have gone backwards with its OS as the 'latest' is crap, just like Windows versions post XP. User unfriendly.

That's my rant.

PS please fix the problems with the Extensions and Plug-ins as they have been faulty for years and certainly since about v25

Letting a third party clean out Firefox files is not a good idea. Sometimes the wrong files get removed.

Firefox can clean its own files when the browser closes.

Firefox does not clean out it's temp files in the internet cache that's all I do as it quickly get to over 500Mb and starts to fill the HDD.

Firefox uses its own bookmarks, cache, cookies . . . . . . . . . .

more options

yes and I can selectively delete the cache without touching cookies etc and Firefox does not delete cache and do option to do so (except maybe monthly?) anyway this is not my problem and not related to why I wish to use and earlier (IMHO better) version.

more options

When Firefox closes, it can remove cookies, cache, and other things.

Look for the directory of the version that you want. Install an older version of Firefox {web link} But remember that old versions may have security issues.
