How do I clear old history but keep recent history?

In Firefox 3.6.4, there is an easy way to clear recent history. But even though I have set Firefox to remember visited sites for "at least" 30 days, it remembers them for months and even years. I would like to have it, automatically if possible, purge history older than some defined interval. Lacking that, I'd like a way to manually delete history older than some date. Is there a way to do this? I have search the forums and add-ons, and came up empty.

You can look at these prefs on the about:config page. http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.history_expire_days (180) (also affects saved form data) http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.history_expire_days_min (90)

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. ..... These prefs will be removed in future Firefox 4.0 versions and replaced with a single places.history.enabled pref to remember history or not.
