every time I try to install the latest desktop firefox version it tells me it is not yet compatible w/ McCaffee virus software & it will need to be disabled. When will it be compatible? Not going to use a system without virus protection software.

Sorry for your inconvenience with someone else's software. McAfee was notified about the problem with their software a couple of months before Firefox 5.0 was actually released, when Mozilla discovered that it was the #2 cause of crashing the Firefox 5.0 betas.

That message says that the McAfee Site Advisor add-on will be disabled, one small part of McAfee, not the entire anti-virus application.

It is blocklisted by Mozilla due to that Site Advisor extension being the #2 cause of crashing the Firefox 5.0 betas. McAfee was notified of the problem long before that extension was added to the blocklist. Now it is up to them to fix it.

I have read that McAfee is working on a re-written version that is projected to be available in the 3rd week of July. See McAfee for availability information.

Is this now working; i.e. SiteAdvisor with McAfee?

Sorry, but this is nonsense. No reputable company would launch an internet browser that disables the 'site advisor' of one of the major anti-virus systems!! I use Mozilla Firefox on principle, so I don't need to use Microsoft or Apple software, but I will now consider my position because of this.

Those "site advisor" add-ons duplicate a feature that is built into Firefox, since Firefox 3.0 was released in June 2008. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/phishing-protection/ What's nonsense is security companies not keeping their Firefox add-ons up to date as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox.

Oh, I installed the new version of fire fox anyway. McCaffee says its still working. But ya know, THIS IS WHY Apple computer has 78 billion dollars in the bank, more cash than our federal government. They use this kind of incomparability crap about pc's & there is some truth to their accounts. You guys should work out the bugs with McCaffee or don't release the update. I get McCaffee free by being an ATT inter net subscriber. They just update it automatically. I don't have time to address crap like this. I switched from Internet Explorer because of sh#t like this. Pick up the phone, call McCaffee, talk to the correct person & solve the F...n problem. Stop passing the buck - since June of 08'!!! WHATEVER!!! Frank

Anyone with McAfee won't use Firefox as much since Firefox 5 is incompatible. McAfee said Firefox 5 is still in Beta, and that is why it doesn't work in Firefox. Ric

McAfee is not owning up to their fault in that matter and "is blowing smoke up your bum" by saying Firefox 5 is a beta version. Firefox 5 was released 7 weeks ago and Firefox 6 is due to be released in one week.

ricfoushee - Firefox 5 is not in beta currently. The McAfee addon was blocklisted while it was in beta testing.

Mozilla moved the product to a 6-week rapid release schedule as of Firefox 4's deployment. The next version, Firefox 6 will release on August 18th.
