Having issues with 24. Can't figure out what version I had before 24. Where can I find this?
Not to be whiney, but 2-3 times a year, these FF updates make everything go haywire. I don't have the patience to go through every issue and find solutions for them all right now. I just want to go back to a working version, the version I had immediately before 24. But I don't know which version that was. I deleted FF and installed 3.6.28, but it has even more issues. Is there a place to find the versions I've used, or if anyone has similar problems and knows which previous version worked perfectly, can you please let me know which it was? Yes, I'm still using XP and yes I know I should update it. I'm getting a new computer for Christmas and won't need to "fix" all these things, so just want to continue with what I had for the remaining 2 months.
The issues I'm talking about is that my bookmark toolbar barely functions. My link to email does not work, I've lost the icons for half my bookmarks...
Please, what was the last good version?
Thanks

Please update back to Firefox 24 (using old versions leaves you at a high risk for attack) and then tell us what exactly doesn't work with your bookmark toolbar.

You can check the update history to see which Firefox versions you have used.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > Update
What kind of issues do you have with Firefox 24?
Note that it isn't recommended to install older Firefox versions with known security vulnerabilities.
Thank you for that - although mine says "no updates installed yet" and is blank.
My bookmark toolbar doesn't work with 24. That's the issue.
Is the Bookmarks Toolbar set to be visible?
- Firefox menu button > Options
- View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
- Right-click empty toolbar area
You can also check if the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still positioned on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
- Firefox menu button > Options > Toolbar Layout
- View > Toolbars > Customize
- if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
- if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
- if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup
It is visible, it's there, it just doesn't work. I just switched to version 22.0 and my theme is gone and bookmark toolbar icons are still messed up and my link to my email is gone.
Can you tell me what version of FF was the current version before 24?
Hello Shyla, "Can you tell me what version of FF was the current version before 24?" = it is in cor-el's link (first reply).
thank you
That is the link I've followed to reinstall previous versions (twice) and neither goes back to what I had originally. It's just a list of all versions, and each opens many links to unknown items to install. I don't know what the difference is or which was last.
But thanks.

Please update back to Firefox 24 (using old versions leaves you at a high risk for attack) and then tell us what exactly doesn't work with your bookmark toolbar.
If your current Firefox profile folder is corrupted then reverting to a previous Firefox version won't help and you will have to fix the current profile or possibly create a new profile and restore your personal data from the old profile. I'm not sure if a reset would help in this case.
I assume that you do not have the favicons on the Bookmarks Toolbar or are also the text labels missing on the Bookmarks Toolbar?
Do you only have a problem with the bookmarks on the Bookmarks Toolbar?
Did you have a full (complete) theme or only a Persona to style the background of the user interface (toolbar area)?
Do you still see the theme in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance"?
Ok, reinstalled 24. I reinstalled my yahoo mail notifier, and it now works. The first 7 bookmarks on my bookmark toolbar do not have favicons. The last 6 do though? I installed a theme that is close to my original. Not quite the same, but I'm really tired of dealing with this. Like I said, I didn't want to have to track down everything and fix it all. But after 4 installs, I'm good. It can stay the way it is. I won't upgrade next time. Thanks.
Lol - the profile thing is the modern day "reinstall windows". In the early days, every issue I had with my computer, I was told to reinstall windows. I never did, and always got the problem fixed. Every time I've had an issue with Firefox, I was eventually told to create/check my profile. Never have, and it's never mattered. I don't think it's responsible as much as some people would like to think.
Thanks for your help today though.
You can click a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar to visit this URL.
That should make Firefox retrieve and restore the favicon.
I've visited all but one of the bookmarks that are missing a favicon, none of the missing ones have been restored. It's ok though, really. Thank you.
Did those bookmarks have favicons before and do you get a favicon on the tab bar if you visit one of those bookmarks?
Not all servers send a favicon, so that could be a possible cause.
Yes, they all had favicons before. It was the first thing I noticed when FF restarted after the new version downloaded. In fact, when it first opened, for about 1/10 of a second they were there, then the first seven went to generic wifi type favicons in a blink. That's why I noticed. Yahoo mail notifier was gone, as was my theme. I reinstalled mail notifier though, it's fine. The theme, I don't know what happened to it. The one I used wasn't very popular, so maybe it doesn't work anymore, or was discontinued or something. It was wood. A light wood. Could have sworn it was just called walnut. But couldn't find it in the list of add-ons. There is another one similar, that I added and am using now. Tabs are a different color, that's all I've noticed so far, so not really a big issue. I'll get used to it. Was just much easier to see them in old theme.
Oh and no, when I visit a bookmarked linked, the favicon does not appear.
