Have Windows 8.1, install Firefox Beta 29, everything works fine. But after the Modern UI browser got stripped out of the beta, the icon disappeared. I've waited untill the stable release of Firefox 29, I thought installing that might fix it, but it's still just a blank blue tile.

Hi Droes,

This might be a problem related to Windows, check the link here: http://answers.microsoft.com

Also, you might want to try uninstalling Firefox and see if the problem is still there. If it still happens it might be a Windows issue.

You can also try the reset Firefox option to see if that helps.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Let me know how that worked!

Try this:

  1. Unpin the icon that is blue or blank and go to that view.
  2. Hover over the bottom of the screen and click "All Apps"
  3. On this list, does the icon appear the same?
  4. If not, repin it, if so can you provide a screenshot of that too please?

I think this may be related to Metro support, is this happening in touch mode? Also this is a little bit of a hacky way to do it http://www.wikihow.com/Pin-Firefox-Web-Apps-to-Windows-8-St...

later edit; I have confirmed that this is the Metro interface and this is not officially fixed, but try the work around and let us know if it helped!

I hoped to solve the issue without unstalling and reinstalling firefox, unpinning the tile and repinning the program from all apps gives the exact same blue tile.

So the only thing left to do was to reinstall Firefox, which did fix the problem.
