I just upgraded my desktop pc from Windows 10 to 11, and before the upgrade I used the Tools Export function to export my complete Thunderbird profile, so I could import it after the upgrade. Unfortunately the export file cannot be read on my upgraded pc using the Import function - Thunderbird gives me error messages every time, that suggest the exported folder might be corrupted or invalid.

My IMAP emails are fine, as I have set those accounts up from scratch and the folders have now populated with all the emails - the problem is all my filed emails, dating back many years, which were all stored manually in a filing system under Local Folders.

I tried manually copying across the individual files from the extracted back-up folder into my live Thunderbird profile and then reopened Thunderbird...which worked to some extent...as in, all the folders are there, but no emails are showing! It shows no messages under each folder, even though if you look under the Profile you can see that the email files exist.

I tried various ways to bring them in, including zipping one of the folders and trying to import from the zip file (which also brought in a folder but no emails) but even though the email files are clearly there under my profile, Thunderbird shows 0 messages in all my Local Folders. It's as though it is unaware the files exist, so I suspect it needs them to be formally imported somehow?

I would hate to lose the emails, as they document important information and purchases etc over many years, along with archived emails for my charity work, social events, etc. As I said, I can see the files are there but simply copying the files to my profile has only worked to the extent the filing 'structure' is visible, Thunderbird doesn't display any of the emails.

I have included two images...one of my Thunderbird Local Folders as they currently look, and the other showing the backed up files existing in my Profile, which I hope are helpful.

Can anyone help please? I am running a desktop PC on Windows 11. Thanks, David.

When I use my PC (main device) Thunderbird shows individual mail folders, on my iPad the default mail client as well as individual account folders has an 'All Inboxes' This is very useful as 95% of my mail will go to one account .... so having an 'All folders' account ensures I don't miss a mail arriving on a less used account.

Is there a way to set this up on Thunderbird?

I’m using Thunderbird on a MacBook Air M1 2020 with 103 GB of free disk space and 8 GB memory. I’m using it primarily as a calendar and task management system because I like the reminder options in Thunderbird. I use local calendars. Thunderbird auto-updated to V 128.5.2 from V115.18.0 on 12/17/24 (I didn’t realize auto-update was set) and since then gets hung every time a reminder comes up and I either dismiss it or snooze it. I have to Force Quit Thunderbird to get the spinning beach ball to go away. I backup my computer weekly using Time Machine and tried restoring to 115.8.0, but was unable to restore my profile with my current calendar items on it. I got an error message saying that the new version of my profile (with my local calendars) is incompatible with Thunderbird V 115.8.0. Is there any way to get my current calendar info into an older version of Thunderbird, or better yet, create a fix so that it doesn’t get hung? If it's time for me to move to a different application for this use, just be honest. Thanks in advance for your advice and expertise!

I live in Peoria, Il USA. our service provider is Comcast. I use Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.3 ver 6.0.4. Just about a month ago, I found I was not able to send emails. I can receive emails easy, but not send on either of the 2 email accounts on my desktop computer. When I tried to send a message I received an error telling me I didn't have permission, so I took pictures of the error messages to the local Comcast office. They told me I needed to change my password.

After changing my passwords, I tried to send an email to my alternate account and received a "sending message" notice. I left it in sending message for over an hour. I closed the sending message. Then checked all of the account settings and preferences, and changed one setting to "normal password", and repeated the test, I receive the same results. Using "Software Manager" I uninstalled "ThunderBird" then re-installed "ThunderBird" via the gui. I tried the same test, and again received the same results.
I again went back to the Comcast office and reported my results, I was told that there were 2 other complaints about the same situation, I asked what their solution was and was told to just log into my Comcast Account online to send emails. I asked them what did Comcast do that caused this problem, I was informed that they are just a sales office, I asked for a phone number for tech support and was told that they don't have a phone number to tech support.
So, it seems I am on my own to fins a solution to the situation they caused, can you help?
If there is any further information you need feel free to ask.

Thank you, Evan James

I have Mozilla Thunderbird Version 128.5.2esr on a desktop with Windows 10 Pro. This version of Thunderbird has the message pane to the right of the email list. I very much prefer the older style where the message pane is on the bottom (the full width of the window). Please let me know how to change the settings so that my message pane will be at the bottom.

Thunderbird won't remember where it was last time (windows 10 and 11). Every time I open it, it has shifted and resized a bit from the last time. It's not one monitor to another or even the other side of one screen, but it's always slightly higher or lower, slightly smaller or larger... It's just driving me nuts because everything else is perfectly positioned. Note that I am using fancy zones to do this placement, but everything else works fine.

When I opened Thunderbird to get and read my new email I received this error message after I could see that Thunderbird had found new messages.

"Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox."

I checked the hard drive space on all of my hard drives and I have GBytes of space and in PREFERENCES for the hard drive, WRITE is allowed. In fact all items listed in Preferences is set to allow.

I've rebooted the computer and even had Windows check my hard drive for errors and it found no problems. What do I now need to do? Thank you. Fred Berney

Hello, I have a Thunderbird problem: If I "print" a photo into a PDF, the PDF file is perfect. If I now send this file via Thunderbird, the recipient of the email, as well as I as the sender, receive the attachment in strips, in poor quality, unacceptable quality. The attachment is not particularly large and is under 5 MB. I use 2 email sender addresses from different providers that have no size limit. The recipient does not have this either. What is the problem? Kind regards, Charly

When I start Thunderbird 128.5.2esr (32-bit) on my Windows 10 Home PC Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045, it has become increasingly slower recently. I have been using it for many years now and up until this year it would typically start in ~30 seconds.

I am accessing three separate POP email accounts and each of them has a number of subfolders with important stored messages. I thought that perhaps I had just too many folders and messages, so I removed hundreds of the stored messages and some of the sub folders. I routinely compact all accounts.

Today, it took over 8 minutes for Thunderbird to open. Incidentally, once it opens initially it seems to perform normally thereafter.

Is there something that I can do to speed things up?

Thanks in advance, Rich Green

I don't expect a reply. I'm simply reporting what I believe to be an error.

I found an Email in my Junk folder that was a billing notice from one of my utility companies. I right clicked on the Email and selected Mark as Not Junk. The message was instantly deleted EVERWHERE. It is not in any folder. I then tried searching for the sender (customerservice@...). The sender's address was instantly found by the search tool, but it stated that NO MESSAGE existed from that sender.

I don't think that marking an Email as Not Junk should completely erase the message from Thunderbird. Rather, I think it should be placed back in the Inbox folder or perhaps the Deleted folder.

I'm using Thunderbird 128.5.2esr (64-bit).
