My Cox account asked for the passwords. I typed in both the old and new passwords, but it just keeps asking for them. I'm switching clients but love Thunderbird. Don't know how to fix it.

I tried deleting the passwords as you suggested but don't know where to go from here.

re :I typed in both the old and new passwords, but it just keeps asking for them.

Can you logon to the webmail account via a browser? The password you use to access the webmail account will be one required in thunderbird. Confirm you can get access to the webmail account.

re :I tried deleting the passwords as you suggested What version of Thunderbird are you using? I ask because current versions allow you to Edit the password so no need to delete.

After deleteing the mailbox and smtp passwords: I presume you did this....

  • Tools > Options > Security > 'Passwords' tab
  • click on 'Saved 'Passwords' button
  • clicked on 'Show Passwords' button
  • Selected mailbox line for pop account or imap line imap mail account
  • then clicked on 'Remove'
  • Selected smtp line for the account and clicked on 'Remove'
  • clicked on 'Close'
  • clicked on 'OK'

did you then exit Thunderbird? If no then

  • Exit Thunderbird.
  • Allow some time for background processes to complete.
  • Start Thunderbird.

You should get a prompt to enter password. You must enter the password which you use to access webmail. Make sure the 'Caps Lock' key is not selected as passwords are case sensitive. select the checkbox for Password Manager to remember the password. click on OK
