When I send an email it starts in "paragraph" instead of "body text".

The title says it. It starts in "paragraph" instead of "body text" and it double spaces the body text. I'm looking for a way to get it to start in "body text" as the default.

Thanks.

WhenI click on the menu bars, I do not get any display of Options to start that chain. Does this apply to an older version of Thunderbird? I can't seem to any way to get away from the default Paragraph mode.

The new behavior can be switched off.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options > Composition > General tab.

Uncheck 'When using paragraph format ...'

What do you get when you click the menu button?

Is there any particular reason you marked your previous post as the 'Solution' for this thread, when it clearly isn't?

When I click on the menu bar, I get 2 columns with various entries, none of which says "Options". Too numerous to list here. Re my posting of a Solution - that was for a different issue which was resolved with help from Toad Hall.
