Pretty annoying to be looking at a Duck Duck Go screen while Firefox is telling me I should add it.

Used to only be something the dumb android app did, now its on my PC browser

I'm kind of a Firefox fan, but there are some things that get very annoying. This is another forum I'm sure, but the android app is hardly usable its so slow to load, I end up opening Google which is antithetic to why I have Firefox. And when I DO wait on the app, and Duck Duck Go loads...there it is, a Firefox ad suggesting I get Duck Duck Go...that I already have!

Whats going on with Mozilla?

Is it a message from Mozilla, or an ad?

First thing this morning the advertisement was also directly under the search window.

This is obviously not a tech problem that negatively affects using the browser, I just keep seeing it, and its just nonsensical.

You can see in the snip, suggesting adding Duck Duck Go...while I'm in a Duck Duck Go screen! :>) Not sure how the image helps, I was telling the truth and it was simple. Suggesting I add it in a screen where I'm already using it. But I suppose this is proof.

Just seems strange that Firefox wouldn't already realize its added.

I thought I had fixed my misspelling of the header. My apologies.

Thanks for the reply, I realize this is more of a question or a statement than a problem.

Mouse on top of the 'Add DuckDuckGo' button. Do you see a link displayed in the Firefox window bottom left? What is it?

Generally, Firefox does always suggest to add e.g. the DuckDuck SearchEngine, and only if you accept, it will tell you that you really cannot do it, since you already installed the suggested engine.

Of course, this does not make a lot of sense. Firefox should not suggest to install engines which are installed already. But Firefox is incapable of doing so at this time. We are very sorry for this.

To add to the confusion, there might be several "Duck" engines, say with or without https or maybe with other details differing.

Hello KennyD3,

Now that the "add-ons soap" is over, you shouldn't be seeing that "Add DuckDuckGo to Firefox" again.

This is, of course, assuming that DDG is still listed in Options => Add-ons => Extensions ..... (?)

It looks like a legitimate link, I cant copy it, it disappears if I move my cursor away from the ad. It does include the word "latest" and has an .xpi extension.

It just hit me after seeing that, maybe Firefox is trying to just get me to update it. I'm going to try following it and see where it leads

I'm not sure what you meant since there were no solutions or suggestions for a "fix" that I followed that I recall and reading above; but your comment along with FredMcD having me look at the link/address when hovering made me just decide to follow the ad where it lead.

Posting this as separate to keep it clear as possible.

It appears the ads I've been seeing are really suggesting the "latest" version of DDG. This may be the solution. My perception was that there was something stupid going on because I was constantly being offered an add on I already had.

I clicked the link and allowed and added. The add-on now appears in "extensions" and so far, the ad is gone since then when opening a new home screen...which I have to use "new tab override" add-on in order to get!

So, had the add or "notice" appeared to have been really trying to tell me it noticed that I dont have the latest version, it wouldn't have been as confusing, or made me wonder "what the heck?". Now that DDG is appearing in my extensions, I opened the extension and selected "automatic updates". I'll see if that resolves it going forward.

In a way, this "annoyance" may have been a good thing, as long as the newest version of DDG doesn't come with its own set of new issues.

Now on to the android version. I assume I need to ask about that in another forum?

Thanks

I mentioned "the add-ons soap", assuming that you knew about all add-ons being disabled the past few days .....

This will explain : https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/comment-page-5/

Developers have been working very hard and it was fixed with the release of Firefox version 66.0.4 yesterday.

Now THAT, I hadn't noticed. My add-ons didn't seem affected, or at least was fixed by an auto-update or something.

Only some add-ons were affected. Note: There is no fix for Android yet.
