I get this error message:

"The proxy server is refusing connections

Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is
   working."

Since changing over to OS X 10.8.2 my web pages won't display properly and with some URLs a blank page appears without taking me to the site.

Check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if the "Use the system proxy settings" setting or one of the others doesn't work properly.

Thanks for that - I Checked the "Auto-detect proxy settings for this network" box and it seems to have resolved the problem.
