Every time I clear my history, cookies, etc., Firefox resets all my add on and website preferences.
I've been using Firefox for over a year. After every session, I clear out everything, history, cookies, forms, everything. A few days ago I logged back on to see that all of my Firefox and add on preference have been reset. I've tried ticking different things to try and figure out which one is clearing out my preferences (ie, clear everything but site preferences, clear everything but cache, etc.), but every time I do, my preferences are wiped and I have to spend a lot more time than I'd like setting EVERYTHING back up again. This has happened several times. I really feel better clearing out this data, but I hate having to redo all of this every time I start Firefox.

Did you do this from within Firefox or did you use an external program like CCLeaner?
Sounds that the prefs.js file gets deleted if you lose all settings.
I just use Firefox. I haven't changed anything about what I've been doing, and I haven't installed anything recently. I tried replacing the prefs.js file like instructed, but the problem persists.
Can you clarify what gets reset regarding the extensions?
Are this all changes made in "Tools/Firefox > Options" and via the about:addons (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) page?
You also haven't told how you are clearing that data.
Is that via "History > Clear Recent History" or otherwise?
Yes, sorry
All of this is done in "Tools > Clear Recent History" Time range "Everything" with all of the boxes checked. (It has become habit for me to clear this stuff so I don't even really look at it anymore. I thought that was where the problem was, and maybe it is?)
When I get back on Firefox after all that, several tabs are automatically opened for Readability, Greasemonkey, Stealthy, Stylish, Missing e and XKit for Tumblr, and Xmarks (as well as the Firefox Startup page) saying they've been installed successfully (as if I had JUST downloaded them). For Xmarks and XKit, I have to reinstall, for Missing e I have to redo the settings. I also have to change my preferences under "Tools > Options" again to what I like and change back my home page and preferred search engine (which gets changed to Amazon for some reason).
