Go back to Firefox 30 - No toolbar in 31

more options

Firefox 31 on Windows 7 is a total disaster. After updating I no longer have my bookmarks toolbar displayed. Yes it is selected in the view menu and it did display in 30 but not in 31 after the update. I can find no way to turn the toolbar display back on.

HELP. How do I revert back to firefox 30.

Did you try right clicking on the bottom of the address bar? A menu should pop up, click on Bookmarks Toolbar. If you still want to use 30, although unrecommend go here and select your language, then the setup stub.

You can use one of these to set which toolbars to show.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Make sure that toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

None of the normal methods like those suggested work.

Could someone just please answer: How can I roll back to FF 30 which worked fine.

None of these methods work.

If the only way to "roll back" to 30 is a new install then bye bye Firefox. I don't do this lightly since I have used FF since the beginning and was a huge supporter until the last year or so. But with every update I get a new user interface which is totally unusable for me and have to struggle for weeks to get workarounds that somewhat work.

Where did controlling "tabs on top" go? Where did the ability to control the size of the address and search boxes go? Why can't I easily control the order of the menu, tabs, address , and bookmarks toolbars? What happened to all the choices in the View menu? What happened to the "spaces" in the customize menus and toolbars?

With each update over the last few years FF has taken away almost all control for the user to set up an interface that is useable. Why has programmer convenience totally trumped the user configurability?

Time to review other browsers again.

I had the same problem. Updated, no bookmarks toolbar. Selected, unselected it a number of times and still no toolbar. It wasn't until I was in the Customize window and clicked the Restore Defaults button at the bottom of the page. Now the toolbar is back, though I had to move some things around and reposition some things in the Add-on bar. Along with having to completely redo the Menu bar, back to the way I like it. Don't you just love it when an update completely f@$#s up everything you've set in your Preferences? Mozilla, this is why we set things in our Preferences. Because we like them that way. Quit screwing them up every time you do an update!

You usually get this issue when the Bookmarks Toolbar items aren't on the Bookmarks Toolbar. The bookmarks show as "Bookmarks Toolbar items" while the customize window is open. If this item isn't on a toolbar or in the Customize palette then you need to click the Restore Defaults button to reset the toolbar customization.

Hi k88kramer, "reinstall" isn't as bad as you imagine. If you run the Firefox 30 installer, it will detect your existing data and overwrite Firefox 31 with Firefox 30. Support article with link: Install an older version of Firefox.

However, as noted in later replies, this problem most likely is relating to having moved bookmarks to a different bar. For reasons TBD, this causes problems in Firefox 31.

You probably know about the Classic Theme Restorer extension to address the other issues you raised. If not, see: How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox.
