Thunderbird isn't able to log into my email account - username/password error message
Why is Thunderbird being blocked from logging in to my email accounts? I got an email from gmail, when I tried to set up my first account. It prompted me to lift a restriction, to allow the app access. I did as the tutorial suggested, changed the setting, tried again, and that worked. I have not had any such luck with my Care2.com or Riseup.net accounts. The error messages indicate that my username or password is wrong, but that is not the case. I have tried several times, even changing my password, refreshing everything, and trying again with the new password, that is clearly logging me successfully into my account. What more can I do?

disable the email scanner in your anti virus. They often think the account wizard is getting mail and just completely mess up the new account setup ny eating the failed log in attempts and other probe results.
