Since updating to updating to ESR 52.4.0., my Beyond TV schedule does not display.

I have been using FF and Beyond TV for years and never had a problem until now. I have tried many different settings but nothing works.

It also does not work on the newest regular FF version 56.0 on different PCs.

It does work in IE.

I have attached what I see in FF and IE.

Here is a link to the page code http://home.earthlink.net/~stevensoto/http%20_dell-media%208226_Guide.aspx.txt

Let me know if you need any other details.

Thank you

Well that's a blast from the past. I bought Beyond TV in ancient days for reasons I honestly cannot remember. As I understand it, it has not been updated for years. That said, I don't know why it would suddenly stop working now if it worked in Firefox 52esr in recent months.

I assume you tried "the usual":

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are general suggestions to try when it stops working:

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

jscher2000: Thank you for advising. I tried these but none of them worked. I did notice that IE was able to display b/c of its compatibility mode feature. I can turn it on and off and see it change. FF does not have a compatibility mode.

Something changed in this new version and I cannot find what it is.

cor-el: I tested with the Web Console but everything is coming through ok. No blocked content or major issues.

Well it seems I found a temp workaround.

I installed IE Tab V2...

...and the schedule now displays. However, the add-on does not support FF 56. Fortunately, all my systems are running FF ESR 52 so it would be great if I can actually resolve the issue.

The issue has not been resolved I just have a work around and I have to use the ESR version.

I need a fix to this so I can update FF to the current version.

What IETab extensions do is call Internet Explorer in the background to render the tab contents. So your workaround is basically using Internet Explorer, either in its own shell or, using ESR and an extension, inside a Firefox tab.

There are old websites that only work in older versions of IE (as you note, Compatibility mode is required). I don't know if you can justify spending hours trying to make the site work in Firefox...

If you right-click the program guide area and choose Properties (this is from IE's context menu -- if you get Firefox's context menu, try This Frame > View Frame Info), is it a page on a local device or out on the internet?

These are pages on my local internet. I don't want to spend hours on this though I cannot say this is resolved b/c it isn't and I will eventually have to upgrade from FF ESR. None of the IE add-ons support the current FF version.
