Cannot Download GIFs with FF 57.0.1
I'm using FF 57.0.1 on a current OSX MAC Mini. I cannot successfully download GIF fils. I can download the same GIFs with Safari, but either Download from Giphy.com or Google Images or Save File As only gives me a corrupted file.
I've reset the about:config download settings, but that didn't help.
Thank you.

I can download GIFs, but only by dragging them to my Desktop. That's an acceptable solution, but FF might want to take a look at why other options don't work.
What other methods have you tried?
Some sites discourage image scraping by interfering with the usual right-click > Save Image As (or if no right button, Ctrl+click > Save Image As).
Another method users sometimes find helpful is using the Page Info dialog's Media tab. Either:
- right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Media
- (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Media
As you select files in the list, a preview should appear below so you can confirm before clicking Save As. Users have reported mixed luck with multi-selecting files in the list to save in bulk; I haven't tried it recently.
Thank you for responding. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the websites since both Chrome and Safari have no issues downloading GIFs as I would any other file, or following the download directions at the website.
The "right click" "Save as..." option doesn't work in FF 57. And clicking on Download in Giphy.com also doesn't work in FF, but does in Chrome and Safari.
Ah, the eternal mystery of bits and bytes.
Please try to update to 57.0.2 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version fixes some issues.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

What do you mean -- Firefox doesn't display a file browser to let you choose a location and file name? Is that true of all such menu items:
- Save Page As... (on an empty area of the page)
- Save Image As... (on inline images - not background images)
- Save Link As... (on text and image links)
No, if there's a GIF, I can Right Click on it and then click on Save As...but when it's saved (in my case, to my Desktop), the file is corrupted. That also happens when I reset all the "about: config" browser.download settings. When I download the same GIF with Chrome or Safari, the GIF is perfect.
How do I send you a PDF (I have 4 screenshots and I can convert them to one PDF)?
I figured out a way to do it...four screenshots showing the steps to try and download a GIF with FF 57.0.1
Whew!! I played around with this and finally found that BitDefender was causing most of the issues (oddly not with Chrome or Safari, just FF).
I removed the "Pictures" folder from files to be scanned, and that made the difference.
I have no idea why this issue occurs with FF and not the other browsers.
Thank you for being so responsive.
I'm glad you figured that out.
I don't see why BitDefender allowed drag-and-drop but interfered with Save Image As. Maybe it was not intentional.
I don't know either...but I choose to be "output oriented" --- if I've got it working, I should move on.
Thanx again.
