Can I view inbox emails and sent emails in a single folder of a POP account so that I get a more complete view of the message thread?
My Gmail account which is setup as an IMAP account on Thunderbird allows me an All Mail folder which lists the complete thread including any archived messages. This is good way to refer to the complete message thread. I would like to see that in the POP account options too.

All Mail is a peculiarity of Gmail. They don't actually use folders. They store all messages in that one All Mail folder and apply tags. So if you look for Sent messages, it shows you just those messages that have a "Sent" tag.
With POP you only get the contents of the Inbox, so the filing or tagging on the server is irrelevant. Your messages are stored locally on your client and it's up to you to organise them.
Possibilities:
1. Create your own equivalent of the All Mail folder and move or copy all new messages into it, perhaps by using filters.
2. Use a Saved Search folder to create a virtual All Mail folder.
3. My own approach is to file messages in whatever way seems sensible to me. This might be by topic or by correspondent. At work, it's by project. I store all messages relating to that matter in their own folder, so that's both sent and received all together. So I naturally have both sides of a conversation all in one place.
I don't like working with big folders. It seems to me to be inefficient and a poor use of the computer, unnecessarily asking it to work with one large data set.
