Importing a Thunderbird address book into McAfee Friends List

more options

I am unable to import a Thunderbird address book into McAfee's Friends List, as an anti-spam measure. McAfee Total Protection allows users to import their entire Address Book from Thunderbird and several other email applications, into what they call the Friends List. Click on a button and the magic is supposed to happen! But for me, nothing happens. Except that McAfee tells me I'm trying to import an empty Address Book. Have a look at my screen shots. My Address Books are certainly not empty. Has anyone else had this problem? Nothing relevant showed up when I searched for McAfee in TB's search for help facility. Has anyone else succeeded in importing their entire Address Book from Thunderbird into McAfee's Friends List? I've already asked McAfee if they can help. After all, it happens in their application. Their advice was to uninstall and then reinstall McAfee. I did that but it didn't help. One possible reason for the problem might be because I have multiple address books. The overarching address book is called "All Address Books" (I think that's TB's default name) and under that I have 47 other address books. So if McAfee is looking for something simply called "Address Book", it isn't going to find anything. To test out my little theory, I'd need to be able to change the name "All Address Books" to "Address Book". At the moment that's not possible. Over to you. I hope you can help. Regards, Shirley

All Address Books isn't a 'real' address book - it just contains pointers to the actual address books - so it appears empty to McAfee. I don't know if you can have McAfee import a specific address book, as it doesn't explain how - it just lets you choose the application.

If you were able to import specific address books, it would be easy to create a temporary address book that contained the contacts from all 47 address books.

However, it's generally regarded as a bad idea to have McAfee (or any AV) perform any kind of antispam or antivirus scanning of email.
