Two email accounts with the same address when moving provider.
In outlook you can set up two of the same email address - current provider and new provider and then switch over keeping the old emails as an archive. How can we achieve this in thunderbird. Old email provider not providing support so we are not sure if the emails will disappear once switched over so do not want to overwrite.

Copy the mail for the old account to Local Folders before service is ended, and add the new account when it is activated, starting from File/New/Existing Mail Account... TB supports multiple accounts working simultaneously.
