AOP is the extension that "fixes" the issue.

Sometimes a site won't open at all, WFUV. Some sites won't auto log-in. Citi & NY Times.

Safari has no issue with any.

Big Sur. Mac Mini.

What extension is that? What is its link?

Make sure you are not blocking content.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/smartblock-enhanced-tracking-protection

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content. You can click shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection. You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages about blocked content.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

k, I'll try without Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection.

turned off Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection. and Ublock, AdBlocker Ultimate and DisConnect. those are all the blockers I have.

No change. Still won't auto log in and puts me in a subscription loop that doesn't occur with Safari. Only opening in private window prevents the issues from occurring.

Did you try Firefox Troubleshoot Mode ?

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or blocked cookies.

  • check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions"

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and when present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

as I said, I did try Troubleshoot mode. That seemed to fix NYT and citi. I cleared the cache and cookies of both. Went back to normal mode. NYT is completely broken without a Private window. citi is somewhat broken, but works better in a Private window.

I removed cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and when present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal. Restarted. No change.

Use these links to create a new profile. Use this new profile as is. Is the problem still there?

I have tried all these suggestions, in some cases, more than once. And these 3 websites are still broken where auto log-in is concerned . banks work mostly, in Private window. Nothing fixes the issue with Mac Resource Forums. 3 other browsers have no issue with auto log-in with banks or NYT. Safari, Oprah & Brave.

May I suggest that someone set up an acct at MRF and see if they can make auto log-in work.

I re-installed and tried Troubleshoot mode again. That seems to have fixed the citi issue. Privacy Possum was the culprit there. However the NY Times site is still broken for auto log-in.

Unable to log into Vanguard Funds as well. Took the same steps that cleared up citi. Allowed pop up windows. Nope.

So there is still log in issues with some websites. Can't imagine I'm the only one experiencing these issues.

Detail like websites remembering you and log you in automatically is stored in cookies, so make sure you aren't clearing important cookies.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"

cleared history with the above info and that gets me in one time.

I have cookies exception. Block pop up window exception.

I don't see - clearing "Site Preferences" or clearing "Site Preferences"
