The + button in the menu that normally opens a new tab doesn't work anymore. The only way to open a new tab is by hitting one of the buttons on the top that normally show the history. When I press the + button either nothing happens or some Chinese add will load, and that ad takes me to a jd.com link that actually doesn't load. I have tried installing a virus scanner, clearing the cache, and reinstalling, but it didn't help. I am using an oppo find x2 pro and am living in China if that helps.

I assume that you mean the plus button at the at the right end of the Tab bar ?

Can you open a new tab via the Ctrl+T keyboard shortcut ?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Sorry I should mention this is on mobile Firefox not desktop. I have gone through all settings and don't see anything that would make the new tab button load a link or do nothing. Since reinstalling the new tab button doesn't show the spam anymore but it also doesn't load a new tab. Strange!

Hi

Is this in a copy of Firefox for Android that you have installed from the Google Play store?
